*Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has conceded that the crime levels in the country are unacceptably high.
This is despite a decrease in a number of crime categories. During the fourth quarter which is the period from January to March this year there were 58 murders per day.
Cachalia released the fourth quarter crime statistics in Pretoria yesterday,



*The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that it has applied for leave to appeal the contempt of court order and warrant of arrest issued against prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba. The legal action stems from the high-profile extortion and money laundering case of taxi boss Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni and his co-accused.


*The City of Johannesburg and the owners of the Marble Towers, Golden Rod group, will be back in the High Court in Johannesburg on Wednesday next week. They were in court yesterday and the matter was postponed. Golden Rod group brought an urgent interdict earlier this week to halt the city's planned demolition of illegal structures. The city has described the Marble towers building in the Johannesburg CBD as a death trap.

*Deputy President Paul Mashatile will deliver the eulogy at former North West premier Bushy Maape's special official provincial funeral in Vryburg today. Maape died after a short illness in Johannesburg last weekend at the age of 68.
He was North West premier between 2021 and 2024.

*Scientists at Oxford University in England say a new Ebola vaccine they are developing could be ready for clinical trials within months. The vaccine is designed to help to tackle the outbreak of the disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo. So far more than 170 people have died with another 750 suspected cases under investigation
