Uganda Declares Itself Ebola Free as Border Controls Tighten With DR Congo

Uganda has declared itself Ebola free after two Congolese nationals crossing from Ituri province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for the virus.

One of the patients has died, while the other has tested negative and is recovering. Most of the more than 100 people under quarantine have also tested negative.

Authorities have tightened border controls with the DR Congo, suspending passenger flights and ferry services while maintaining cargo movement. Health officials say continued cross-border movement still poses a serious risk.

Community markets and public gatherings in border areas have also been disrupted as screening and surveillance efforts increase.
