* The National Prosecuting Authority has filed an application for leave to appeal the contempt of court order and warrant of arrest issued against prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba in the high-profile taxi boss Joe 'Ferrari' Sibanyoni and others case. The Kwaggafontein Magistrate's Court struck the extortion case off the roll this week, after the prosecutor failed to appear.

* Presenting fourth quarter national crime statistics in pretoria today, Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia reported that crimes recorded between January and March this year have shown a decline. Murder cases dropped by 9-POINT-5 percent, sexual offences by 6-POINT-4 percent, while aggravated robberies declined by 15-POINT-6 percent.

* Community members, family and friends of late Mahikeng community activist Thato Molosankwe have gathered at his home in Lomanyaneng village for memorial vigil commemorating his life. Molosankwe was shot and killed by unknown assailants at his home earlier this week.

* International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Ronald Lamola, says African nations need to convene to discuss migration challenges on the continent. Lamola addressed delegates at the SADC Foreign Affairs Ministers' retreat at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga.
