CRTC orders streaming companies cough up more cash for Cancon

Canada’s federal broadcast regulator said it’s raising the minimum contribution for all online streaming companies toward a fund for the creation of Canadian content, if they make at least $25 million in Canadian revenue.

The move triples the five per cent base, set in 2024, to 15 per cent, and has already caught the attention of U.S. streaming companies like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+, as well as some U.S. lawmakers.
