Durban metro to offer repratriation support to foreign nationals

eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba says a repatriation facilitation office will be established in Durban for those foreign nationals who are in the country legally, and who wish to return to their country of origin voluntarily.

Earlier the mayor said he had been contacted by refugees from the DRC, Burundi and Ethiopia, who wished to return home.

Xaba says further details of the initiative will be discussed with members of the diplomatic corps.

He says an announcement of where the facility will be established, will be made in due course.

Xaba says he will also ask authorities to embed stronger security features in asylum seeker documentation.
