The Subcommittee on Review of the Assembly Rules is meeting to look at the implications of Constitutional Court judgment on the rules of the National Assembly, and to define the rules for parliamentary oversight.
On May 18, Chief Justice Mandisa Maya declared Rule 129I of the National Assembly unconstitutional and set aside the December 2022 vote that halted an impeachment inquiry against Ramaphosa.
The Subcommitee is expected to establish the operational "road map" and the amendment of rules before the newly appointed 31-member ad hoc impeachment committee can formally process the evidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The ad hoc Impeachment Committee will consider the Section 89 inquiry process regarding the allegations against the President, specifically the findings of the Independent Panel Report.
