Abortion pill access becomes US political flashpoint | This is America

The US Supreme Court has allowed women to continue accessing abortion medication by mail, but the ruling has done little to end the debate over state versus federal control. The FDA first removed in-person dispensing requirements during the pandemic and made the change permanent in 2023. Some states have responded aggressively: Mississippi imposes up to 10 years in jail, Texas allows lawsuits against companies that mail pills, and Louisiana has classified abortion medication as a controlled substance. A Johns Hopkins study found pregnancy-associated deaths rose 9 percent in states with abortion bans — 68 more women in the first year alone.

So, will abortion rights sway the midterms? And can states find balance in a deeply divided nation?
