#WATCH | Our partnership found its best expression during the International Year of Millets. With the support of the FAO, the world has rediscovered the power of millets in a new light. We will continue to work together, shoulder to shoulder. I have observed that whenever millets are discussed, attention often focuses on nutrition. However, millets are also highly environment-friendly crops. They require minimal water and can grow without chemical fertilisers. India is a country where nearly 85% of farmers are smallholders with very limited landholdings. In many areas, there is no irrigation facility, and agriculture depends solely on rainfall. In such regions, farmers, through millet cultivation, not only address nutritional needs but also make a significant contribution to environmental sustainability. In India we say, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.” When a farmer sows a seed, he does not merely grow a crop; he sows trust for future generations. Today, as the world goes through a period of uncertainty and instability, the contribution of farmers becomes even more significant. The honour bestowed today will further strengthen the resolve of every farmer in India, and India will continue to contribute with full commitment to global efforts against hunger, poverty, and malnutrition: PM Narendra Modi
