Public Health Officers in Nairobi are accusing the County Public Service Board of employing unqualified officers to handle food safety and medical certification services. They are now threatening industrial action over the claims. Led by the Kenya Environmental Health and Public Health Practitioners Union Secretary General Brown Ashira, the officers are demanding the immediate deployment of the officers that they claim are not legally qualified to oversee food handling certification. Ashira said the move goes against the Public Health Act and the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council Act. The union further warned that weak oversight compromises food and water safety surveillance in the capital, raising fears of possible outbreaks of communicable diseases
