The City of Johannesburg says the notorious Marble Towers building in the Johannesburg CBD has become a major safety hazard and a potential death trap.

This follows an urgent court interdict brought before the high court in Johannesburg by lawyers representing Golden Rod Property Holdings.

On Wednesday, Joburg Mayor Dada Morero led a by-law enforcement operation targeting illegal structures attached to the building as part of the city's intensified inner-city clean-up campaign.
