भारत-नॉर्वे साझेदारी से Shipbuilding और Green Shipping को नई रफ्तार- Sibi George, Secretary (West)

#WATCH | This is a very important area of collaboration with Norway. Norwegian ship owners have been placing orders with Cochin Shipyard for several years. Vessel deliveries and emerging repair partnerships are also taking place, along with Udupi and Chowgule Shipyards, where a series of eco-friendly, future-ready dry cargo vessels are being built for Norway.

Around 10% of ships ordered by members of the Norwegian Shipowners Association are now built in India. Recently, Norwegian companies have also placed orders for ships to be manufactured at Swan Defense and Heavy Industries Limited at the Pipavav facility in Gujarat. On the Indian side, cooperation has also been invited in the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal in Gujarat.

This reflects a highly forward-looking engagement in the shipping sector. Alongside this, there is growing focus on green shipping technologies and ship recycling, where both sides are expected to work closely together.

As you know, both Norway and India are maritime nations. I recall His Excellency the Prime Minister mentioning that Norway’s coastline is even larger than India’s. In fact, India also has a vast coastline.
