More than a century ago, Slovenian painter Ivana Kobilca captured an ordinary summer gathering beneath the sunlight. Today, her painting "Summer" remains one of the country's most beloved artworks, not because of kings or battles, but because of its quiet closeness to everyday life.



Alongside the painting, verses by France Prešeren – Slovenia's national poet – continue a long European tradition in which poetry, painting and memory speak to one another across generations.
