A North Korean women’s football team landed on South Korean soil for the first time in 12 years on Sunday (May 17), marking the first appearance by the isolated country’s women footballers in South Korea since the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
Pyongyang-based Naegohyang Women’s FC — which means “My Hometown” in Korean — arrived at Incheon International Airport near Seoul to crowds of reporters and supporters holding welcome signs.
“We welcome you!” supporters shouted as the delegation of 27 players and 12 staff members walked past under heavy security.
The team is set to compete in the AFC Women's Champions League. #northkorea #southkorea
