The train driver involved in a deadly collision with a bus in Bangkok has tested positive for drugs, Thai police said on Monday (May 18). The driver, who did not have a rail transport licence, has been charged with reckless driving causing death and serious injury.
CCTV footage reportedly showed that the collision occurred about two minutes after a railway official briefly waved a red warning flag.
Data from the locomotive’s black box also revealed that the driver applied emergency brakes approximately 100m before the collision but failed to stop the heavy convoy in time. The crash on Saturday (May 16) left 8 people dead and around 30 others injured.
