WHO declares Ebola outbreak in DR Congo an international emergency

An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO), after 80 suspected deaths.

The WHO said on Sunday (May 17) that the outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, does not meet the criteria of a pandemic emergency but are at high risk of regional spread.

The Ebola virus is highly contagious and can cause symptoms including fever. vomiting, diarrhoea, a rash and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding. #ebola #drcongo
