Thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington, DC for “Rededicate 250,” an event celebrating prayer, faith and what organizers describe as America’s Christian heritage.
The gathering featured Christian pastors, conservative lawmakers and an expected address from US President Donald Trump. Organizers said the event was about religious freedom and public expressions of faith.
But the rally also drew criticism from interfaith groups and civil liberties organizations, who argue such events do not reflect America’s religious diversity and raise concerns about the growing influence of Christian nationalism in US politics.
The event comes amid an intensifying national debate over the role religion should play in American public life and government.
