Uganda on high alert after Ebola death linked to DRC outbreak

Ugandan health authorities say they are on high alert after a Congolese national died from Ebola at a hospital in the capital, Kampala.
The man had travelled from Ituri province in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the centre of the current outbreak.
Officials say all those who came into contact with him have been quarantined, while temperature checks, hand sanitising measures and mask distribution have been stepped up at hospitals and border crossings.
Ugandan authorities insist the situation is under control, citing the country’s experience handling previous Ebola outbreaks and other infectious diseases.
Medical teams and aid organisations, including Médecins Sans Frontières, have also been deployed to border areas to help contain the spread of the virus.
The outbreak has raised concern across central Africa after the World Health Organization declared it a global health emergency.
