During the joint press statement at Gothenburg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the landmark India-EU trade agreement, described as the “mother of all deals”, opens unprecedented opportunities for over two billion people and nearly a quarter of the global economy. She said Europe is committed to signing it by year-end and moving swiftly to implementation.
She also praised the growing India-Europe partnership in investment, security and defence, highlighting cooperation in maritime security, cyber resilience and critical infrastructure. Calling Sweden’s new strategic partnership with India a model, she said stronger India-EU ties can bring stability, growth and security in an increasingly uncertain world.
