A suspected rhino poaching kingpin has been shot and killed in Mpumalanga.

The man, believed to be a key figure in a major rhino poaching syndicate, was allegedly gunned down earlier today.

Details surrounding the shooting are still unclear, but police have confirmed the death of the suspect, who had been linked to several high-profile rhino poaching cases in the province.

He had previously been arrested multiple times in connection with illegal wildlife crimes.
