Media pioneer Maria McCloy remembered

The arts and culture and entertainment industry is mourning the passing of a giant who loved Joburg and its creatives.

Maria McCloy didn't ask for permission to shape Joburg's media landscape. She moved first, and the culture followed.

In a city that never slows down, she had a knack for spotting what was stirring beneath the surface long before it had a name. The title "queen of first" came from action, not self-promotion. She opened doors, set the bar, and gave space to voices others missed.

And this morning we remember a life well-lived and we are joined by her friends and colleagues Bradley Williams, Noluthando Rotwane and Ephraim Molingoana.
