The Madlanga Commission is hearing a recusal application filed against chief evidence leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson by controversial businessman and alleged political fixer, Brown Mogotsi.
Mogotsi's legal counsel, Advocate Nthabiseng Mohomane, has argued that the application for Chaskalson's recusal is based on perceived bias and a lack of impartiality.
Advocate Mohomane says the matter centres on WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between Mogotsi and Chaskalson.
Mohomane has told Chairperson retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga that Advocate Chaskalson allegedly promised to protect Mogotsi if he provided adverse evidence against North-West businessman Sulieman Carrim.
