FIFA World Cup 2026 | SABC News marks court down, celebrates Bafana Bafana with Football Fridays

The countdown has begun before the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off in Mexico. Billed as a historic re-encounter of the 2010 World Cup opening match in South Africa, Bafana Bafana will take on Mexico in their opening match on the 11th of June 2026 at the Mexico City Stadium, Mexico.

The 104-game tournament features 48 teams across 16 host cities in three countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States.

As the official broadcaster of the FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 in South Africa, the SABC will bring the tournament to millions of viewers through its multi-platform access, including 34 matches which will air LIVE on SABC 3 and streamed live on SABC Plus. SABC radio stations nationwide will also provide match coverage, updates, analysis, and fan engagement across multiple languages.
