Asian stocks rise on chipmaker gains

Asian stocks were mostly up today as some vessels resumed passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while a suspended workers' strike at Samsung Electronics and better-than-expected results from Nvidia helped to lift shares of ‌chipmakers.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump suggested that he would speak with Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te as the White House weighs arms sales to the democratic island.

It's a move that would risk disrupting newly stabilized ties between China and the U.S. days after the American President was in Beijing.
