Former Green Army EPWP workers demand reinstatement

Former participants of the Green Army EPWP say their unemployment has become unbearable, urging the Premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, to rehire them. They were part of the Nasi Spani initiative, and have marched to the Premier's Office in Johannesburg, to hand over a memorandum of grievances, demanding a response within three days. Launched in May 2023, the one-year Green Army EPWP programme recruited 6 000 beneficiaries to assist communities in establishing food gardens and cleaning initiatives.
