On April 24, 2026, a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Canadian Forces’ participation in the Battle of Kapyong was held in Gapyeong, Gyeonggido Province.
About 10 months after the outbreak of the Korean War, in April 1951, Chinese forces launched the Fifth Offensive with massive troop deployments in an attempt to recapture Seoul. In response, the British Commonwealth 27th Brigade defended Gapyeong and covered the withdrawal of allied forces. Among them, the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (2PPCLI), was deployed on the rugged Hill 677, where around 700 soldiers fought against an enemy force five times their size. This episode explores the hidden story behind the Battle of Kapyong, one of the Canadian military’s greatest victories during the Korean War.
