United States President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are preparing for a high-stakes summit in Beijing that could have major ramifications for the global order. Trade, tech and rare earths are high on the agenda, with more than a dozen executives from the world's largest companies travelling with the American leader. But the war on Iran and restrictions over the Strait of Hormuz could overshadow talks. Trump’s visit to Beijing is the first by an American leader in nearly a decade. Dr Bates Gill, a senior fellow at the National Bureau of Asian Research, shares his thoughts on the summit with CNA’s Asia First.
