IEC gets R1.1bn more for 2026/27 financial year

The Independent Electoral Commission says it has received an extra R1.1 billion from National Treasury for the 2026/2027 financial year. It says it requested additional funding after it identified a budget deficit from the initial R3.1 billion already received. The commission has given an update on its readiness for the 2026 Local Government Elections to the Standing Committee on Appropriations.
