DPWI visits Ebuhleni baManazaretha after retaining wall collapse

The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is investigating into the retaining wall collapse at Ebuhleni baManazaretha - a village belonging to the Nazareth Baptist Church in Inanda, north of Durban.

Eight congregants were injured on Monday when the structure collapsed while workers were having lunch.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Dean Macpherson, has visited the site.

He says his department is awaiting information from the eThekwini Municipality regarding building plans and the approval process for the project.

He confirmed that search and rescue operations have ended.

A spokesperson for church says four of the eight congregants, who were hospitalised, are still being treated, while one is expected to undergo surgery.

Nonhlakanipho Magwaza reports that the church is constructing an accommodation block.
