Hantavirus cruise evac completed as ship sails to Rotterdam | Midday Report

- RUSSIAN GROWTH FORECAST SHARPLY REDUCED
Russia’s government has officially slashed its economic growth forecast for 2026 by two thirds, according to an interview the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak gave to the daily newspaper Vedomosti. Although the official was upbeat on the resilience of the Russian economy, other experts offer a more cautionary perspective.

- HANTAVIRUS CRUISE EVACUATION COMPLETED
Spanish authorities, assisted by the World Health Organization, the EU, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and other governments, have now completed the emergency evacuation of passengers impacted by the Andes strain of the hantavirus on the MV Hondius cruise ship. Right now, nine cases have been confirmed, with three deaths. One case remains inconclusive.

- ZELENSKYY’S FORMER AIDE LINKED TO $10.5M MONEY LAUNDERING CASE
Andriy Yermak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s former Chief of Staff, is now at the center of a major ongoing corruption investigation. Although Ukrainian law does not permit him to be publicly named at this stage, it is broadly understood that he is suspected of participating in criminal group that laundered $10.5m through a housing project, which he denies ownership in.
