Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen says government has significantly stepped up efforts to contain the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease, with more than 300 animal health technicians deployed across the country to support a mass vaccination programme.
Steenhuisen says an additional 15 million vaccine doses are expected to be imported from Turkey and Argentina by the end of this month to bolster the rollout.
As a precautionary measure, and amid the ongoing battle against the disease, a decision has been taken to bar all cloven hoofed animals from this year's NAMPO agricultural show, currently underway at NAMPO Park in Bothaville in the Free State.
