Putin can no longer boss Azerbaijan around | Eastern Express

Azerbaijan and Russia say their relations have recovered after a bitter dispute triggered by the destruction of an Azerbaijani passenger aircraft in December 2024.

Ilham Aliyev has nevertheless repeated his support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and urged Ukrainians never to accept occupation. The Kremlin called Azerbaijan’s position erroneous, but insisted that the disagreement should not damage bilateral relations.

Baku’s confidence reflects a South Caucasus in which Russia’s neighbors increasingly pursue their own interests without automatically deferring to Moscow.
