‘Not surprising’: Analyst on Trump’s rejection of Iran’s counter-proposal to end war

United States President Donald Trump on Sunday (May 10) rejected Iran’s counter-proposal to end the 10-week-old war, calling it “totally unacceptable”. His rebuke came after Tehran responded to the latest American peace plan via Pakistani mediators, which state media said stressed the need for a permanent end to the conflict on all fronts, especially Lebanon. Arran Kennedy, associate analyst at Control Risks’ maritime intelligence and security practices, tells CNA’s Asia First that the core demands from both sides are “far apart”, on top of the double blockades in the key Strait of Hormuz waterway.
