Phu Quoc speedboat capsize: Tour operators fear incident could dampen growth of tourism industry

The bodies of 15 Indian tourists killed in a speedboat accident off Vietnam's Phu Quoc island are returning home on a flight that arrives in Mumbai today. Vietnamese authorities have promised a full investigation into the capsizing of the vessel on Saturday. July is Vietnam’s southwest monsoon season, marked by sudden thunderstorms. Phu Quoc is one of Vietnam’s most popular destinations, with India as an emerging market. Last year, 750,000 Indians visited Vietnam — nearly 50% more compared to 2024.
