British scholar Robin Gilbank has spent 18 years in China, translating Shaanxi literature and witnessing how digital tools like smartphones can help make local culture more visible. He sees AI as a helpful tool, but insists the soul of translation remains human. "There will always be something AI cannot capture," he says.
