Iran still weighing response to US peace proposal

The United States says it expects a response from Iran as soon as later in the day - to its latest proposal to end the war in the Gulf, even as US and Iranian forces clashed in the Gulf and the United Arab Emirates came under renewed attack.

Recent days have seen the biggest flare-ups in fighting in and around the contested Strait of Hormuz since a cease fire began a month ago. But a CIA assessment indicated Iran would not suffer severe economic pressure from a US blockade of Iranian ports for about another four months, raising questions over Trump's leverage over Tehran in a conflict that has been unpopular with voters and US allies.
