Tuberculosis remains one of South Africa's leading causes of death despite major advances in diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
Against this backdrop, researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers and community leaders will gather at the 9th South African Tuberculosis Conference taking place at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre from 8 to 11 June under the theme, "Vuka! Let's unite towards a TB-free world!"
The conference comes at a critical time for the continent, as concerns grow over funding cuts, the need for stronger African-led solutions, and the ongoing burden of TB in vulnerable communities.
Joining us is Prof Mohlopheni Marakalala, Chairperson of the 9th South African TB Conference and Unit Director at the South African Medical Research Council's Centre for TB Research.
