Let me update you on some of the recent developments regarding countries in the Gulf region. Under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s outreach to countries in the Gulf region continues actively.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri paid an official visit to the UAE on 7 May 2026, that is, yesterday. Earlier, as already informed, the External Affairs Minister had visited the UAE from 11–12 April, while the National Security Adviser visited the UAE from 25–26 April 2026.

In addition, India has also intensified outreach to other countries in the Gulf region. The Minister of Petroleum visited Qatar on 9–10 April, and the National Security Adviser visited Saudi Arabia on 19 April 2026.

During his visit, the Foreign Secretary met the UAE Minister of State and Special Envoy for India, Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy. He also met His Excellency Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Managing Director and CEO of Mubadala Investment Company.

The Foreign Secretary held detailed discussions with Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy on ongoing bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including trade, investment, economic cooperation, defence, fintech, healthcare, and people-to-people ties. Both sides also exchanged views on the prevailing situation in the West Asia region.

Apart from bilateral engagements, the Foreign Secretary also participated in a trilateral meeting under the India-France-UAE framework. The meeting was attended by Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy from the UAE side and His Excellency Martin Briens, Secretary General of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.
