"Every child comes with their own trauma."
In this episode of The Heat, Nisreen Qawas, a psychologist and director of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services at the Palestine Red Crescent Society, shared firsthand accounts of the psychological devastation facing children in Gaza.
Qawas recalled the heartbreaking case of five-year-old Hind Rajab, who was trapped in a car after an attack in January 2024, and explained why her story represents the suffering of thousands of children living through war. From anxiety and aggression to sleeplessness and emotional withdrawal, she described the severe mental health crisis unfolding daily in Gaza.
As drones and bombardments continue, Qawas said true healing remains impossible for many children still living in fear.
