Sol Plaatje Municipality placed under administration

The Northern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Bentley Vass has placed Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley under administration. This follows months of instability, court battles and pending disciplinary action against municipal manager, Thapelo Matlala, who is accused of corruption. In March the MEC's attempts to meet municipal councillors collapsed following a walk-out and scuffle between some councillors. The municipality had until the first week of April to provide reasons why they should not be placed under administration or dissolved and they missed the deadline.
