Residents in Thembisa are up in arms, calling for the closure of foreign-owned spaza shops, accusing them of selling unsafe food products and putting the lives of community members at risk.

The protest at Swai Inn in the Ekurhuleni township has drawn large crowds, with residents also blaming government for failing to regulate informal trading.
