The third decision concerns a Coastal Highway in Odisha, a project that was also included in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-NDA government’s manifesto and has been a long-standing demand of the state. The need for this project arises because the coastal regions of Odisha are frequently impacted by cyclones. At the same time, these areas are home to a wide range of economic activities, including fishing, betel cultivation, and rice farming. In addition, Odisha’s coastline includes major tourism and pilgrimage destinations such as Puri and Chilika, as well as Paradeep, one of the country’s largest ports. Ensuring connectivity along the coast has therefore been a long-standing demand of the people of Odisha.
