Law Minister Edwin Tong explains jurisdiction over offences on board RTS Link trains

The country where the journey ends will have primary jurisdiction over offences committed on board the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link when it begins operations, said Law Minister Edwin Tong in parliament on Tuesday (May 5), where he tabled the Cross-Border Railways (Border Control Co-Location) Bill.

He added that both Singapore and Malaysia will have concurrent criminal jurisdiction over criminal offences that occur on board trains in transit, as well as over the stretch of railway tracks located between Malaysia's Pier 47 and Singapore's Pier 48. 

Where offences are being investigated, a referral system also ensures cases are handled appropriately, even when police reports are filed in the other country. #singapore #sgnews
