Press Freedom Day I Concerns raised over declining safety of journalists

Media stakeholders have raised concerns over the safety of journalists ahead of next year's general elections. They warned that growing insecurity and intimidation could undermine credible election reporting in the country. Speaking during the World Press Freedom Day commemorations at Strathmore university in Nairobi, Kenya Editors’ Guild President Zubeidah Kananu raised concern over delayed justice for journalists injured in the line of duty and cautioned against the growing use of Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation which are being used to financially and psychologically silence media professionals.
