(June 17, 2026) Ministry Of National Defense Issues Press Briefing On Current Security Issues

[A Milestone in Transforming the Paradigm of Military Facility Regulations]

✔ **Improving Military Facility Regulations Is Essential to Respond to the Evolving Security Environment**

✔ **Adjustment of the Civilian Control Line to Ensure Operational Readiness**
▪️Need identified for supplementary measures to strengthen practical control mechanisms along the Civilian Control Line (CCL)

✔ **Establishing Measures to Adjust the CCL in Response to Future Security Challenges**
▪️The CCL could be adjusted to an average distance of approximately 6 kilometers
▪️Restrictions are expected to be eased across controlled protection zones covering an area about 90 times the size of Yeouido
▪️The adjustment will be implemented in phases beginning in 2027, alongside strengthened control measures
▪️The national government will bear the full cost of the adjustment
▪️Installation, maintenance, and operation will be carried out efficiently in cooperation with local governments

✔ **Optimization of Restricted Protection Zones South of the Military Demarcation Line**
▪️Criteria for designating restricted protection zones south of the Military Demarcation Line will be improved
▪️Restricted protection zones covering an area approximately 150 times the size of Yeouido are expected to be lifted

✔ **Removal of 23 Military Obstacles in Areas Including Paju and Yanggu by Next Year**
▪️A comprehensive survey will be conducted this year to establish a phased improvement plan
▪️An access-control system for the CCL will be introduced using mobile applications and simplified authentication methods
▪️Approval procedures for agricultural drone operations in border areas will be streamlined
