Following discussions with President Zelenskyy in Oslo, the next stop for U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff was St. Petersburg, where the official met with Vladimir Putin amid souring Washington–Kyiv relations. But what is perceived as a push to end the war may be just a game of play-pretend, as the U.S. administration is facing pressure ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

The EU is now on a mission to persuade Canada and the U.K. to fill the 70 billion Euro funding gap for Kyiv. With Washington changing course, Brussels is looking to non-EU allies to contribute more to Ukraine, as the block and its partners provide 80 percent of the country's external aid.
