United States President Donald Trump on Sunday (May 3) said the US will start escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, in a move aimed at freeing up stranded vessels. But Iran has warned that any interference by the US in the key waterway would be a violation of their ceasefire. This comes as Tehran reviews Washington’s response to its 14-point plan to end the war. Jamsheed Choksy, a distinguished professor at the Indiana University Bloomington, tells CNA’s Asia First that Trump is attempting to force the Iranians to continue negotiating.
