Calls for return of corporal punishment

The Independent South African National Civic Organisation (ISanco) has sparked debate after urging government to bring back school prayers and corporal punishment, saying that crime, corruption, and moral decay demand a return to Christian values.

But critics warn this could clash with the Constitution and human rights protections, and question whether it would solve or worsen the problem, because it is prohibited in all settings, including homes, schools, and childcare facilities.

Debating the issue is ISanco President, Dr Zukile Luyenge and Clinical Director at The Teddy Bear Clinic, Dr Shaheda Omar.
