Kazakhstan’s nuclear test victims still battling radioactive fallout

In the 1960s, the Soviet Union carried out hundreds of nuclear tests in Kazakhstan, leaving a legacy of polluted land, radioactive lakes, and generations affected by cancer and birth defects.
Many residents who remain in the region say far more needs to be done to deal with the enduring consequences.
