Colonialism comes to end one way or the other. After WWII the US demanded the disassembly of the former colonial empires like Britain, France, Dutch etc. So now what? After the Iron Curtain fell the EU introduced Schengen = free travel, the Euro and moved eastward to get cheap labor and discover new markets to products the West already had. Guess what! Putin countered this threat at the moment the West entered Ukraine. Before that the EU already moloched countries like Romania and Bulgaria. These should have never joint EU and NATO but only worked together like a newly formed pact hence the introduction of the Eastern Euro.
US viewer here. Such a lovely and substantive conversation that reminds one of a more civil era of discourse. Can the democracies of Europe (and the world) find a balance between national sovereignty and the support of a rules-based order with the will and power to resist anti-democratic threats including with military action, if necessary? Trump's withdrawal from the USA's commitment to stand with our traditional allies will be reversed by the next Democratic President's administrative. The silver lining of MAGA is the wake up call to Europe saying Europeans need to take responsibility for their own security. I hope a new alliance of peers between the US, Canada, the EU and the UK can develop once Trump is gone, where the other countries have enhanced agency and are no longer excessively dependent on Washington. Whether anything resembling such an ideal can be achieved remains to be seen.
Eu is perfect , there is free movement, everybody love , the onky thing is ilegal inmigration that left let in .and the south countries debt . If you fit those things , its great, greece is in way to down the debt under 100% and spain and france when governemt change to right
The EU is an entirely democratic body... to describe it as an 'enpire' is ignorant and stupid!
Being in a rush is what killed the EU. They shouldn’t have marched towards the East. Also they should have introduced not one but 3 Euro’s instead as valid currencis: A Northern-, Southern-, and an Eastern Euro. This would have given a lot more stability for all countries involved. Also the lack of a EU Defence apparatus is killing EU. <br>Then there are the costs of fuel. If Brussels really wants a United Europe they should have lower the price of fuel so you can easily travel abroad and become one with the people of your destination. But no. The EU choose for pressing on their agenda for the benefit of greedy multinationals and their elites who own the companies or are shareholders.
