SAS Amatola returns after Indian Ocean exercise

A homecoming ceremony has concluded in Simon's Town to mark the return of South African Navy warship, the SAS Amatola after a more than three-month-long exercise in the Indian Ocean.

The warship's Officer Commanding, Captain Zanele Madiba described Exercise Milan 2026, in which more than 70 countries participated, as a significant one.

She says the exercise included skills transfer, testing operational readiness and maritime engagement.
